Paul Wellington

  • In 2003 engaged by the Department of Housing and works WA to contribute to the drafting of an adjudication act, later to be legislated as the Construction Contracts Act 2004. Carried out over 50 adjudications under the Act from 2005 to 2022.

  • Practised as an arbitrator following grading by the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia in 2003 with over 40 nominations by the IAMA, Resolution Institute and Australian Institute of Architects.

  • Appointed in the first intake as a sessional member of the State Administrative Tribunal. Active on building disputes from 2005 to 2011.

  • Engaged as an expert witness by solicitors requiring opinion on architectural and building practice in the District and Supreme Courts, State Administrative Tribunal and for arbitrations from 2003 to 2024
  • Expert opinions for the AIA and the Institute’s Archicentre for building defects and assessment of building construction standards
  • Expert opinion for AIA Risk Insurers
  • AIA’s Senior Counsellor, providing expert advice to architects.

  • AIA’s representative on the Department of Housing and Works’ Building Act and Registration Act Working Group (2006–09)
  • Appointed by the Minister for Commerce for proposed tiered registration under the Builders Registration Act 2013.

  • Trained and graded as a mediator by the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia (2003) and by the Resolution Institute (2016)
  • Qualified as an Experienced Qualified Practitioner in Mediation under Australia National Accreditation (NMAS) (2012–18)
  • Mediator for the Small Business Development Corporation WA (2012–17)
  • Mediations for various local government authorities and the AIA.
